Functional Details

Main Responsibilities

• Develop embedded Linux distributions, board support packages and device drivers for Eurotech embedded hardware, including x86 and ARM based platforms
• Support Eurotech customers operating a mixture of Embedded Linux and Embedded Windows
• Contribute to the design and development of automated systems for building, testing and validation of company’s software and hardware products using frameworks like Jenkins, Cloudbees and AWS S3
• Organize, automate and manage Linux distributions across Eurotech’s portfolio of products, across chip architectures and platform versions
• Provide support and guidance to the systems development and systems application teams to create complete product solutions
• Project planning to ensure efficient and timely delivery of engineering projects, adjusting priorities where necessary
• To undertake the responsibilities of applying the Eurotech Product Life Cycle to a product development, handling all aspects of the life cycle from concept/feasibility through to production release
• Liaise with the Operations team to ensure the products can be manufactured
• Liaise with and visit customers as required
• To provide support to the Sales team when necessary to ensure specifications meet customer requirements
• Archive all computer-generated work so that it may be safely recovered in the future

Other Functions

• Support other internal departments as required
• Identify quality issues and initiate corrective actions
• Assist the Board Design and Systems engineering teams to create complete product solutions
• Liaise and provide support directly to customers as required
• Keep up-to-date with core changes in the Linux kernel
• To observe at all times the working practices and procedures in the Eurotech Business Manual, and when observed, to highlight changes that could be implemented to ensure a continuous process of quality improvement
• Awareness of all Health & Safety and Fire Safety procedures relating to the areas of responsibility
• Perform any other duties as reasonably directed by your Manager.

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree, or equivalent in an electronic or software subject and significant C/C++ programming experience with Linux at kernel building and device driver development level
• And/or the ability to demonstrate capability in each of the key competence areas below

Preferred Experience & Skills Required

• An in-depth technical understanding of the Linux Operating system
• Proven experience with Linux, its configuration, kernel, driver, and application development
• Proven experience with Windows Embedded (WinCE, WES, Win10 IoT), its configuration, deployment and support in an IoT context
• Knowledge of and hands-on experience with Open Embedded or the Yocto project
  
• Experience with Linux Networking Configuration (iptables, routing, cellular, wifi)
• Knowledge of security techniques and best practices
• Secure Boot and Chain of Trust
• Excellent programming skills (C/C++, C#, Python, Java, Javascript and Shell Scripting)
• Experience with TCP/IP socket programming
• Design, develop and support Cloud-ready OSGi based bundles for Eclipse Kura
• Experience with GCC/GNU Linux tool chain and cross compiling
• Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio
• Comfortable with version control and release management e.g. Git, Vault
• Running and managing Docker containers
• Configuring and managing Jenkins for continuous integration
• Experience with industry specific protocols such as J1939, Bluetooth LE, Modbus, CanBus, Zigbee, I2C, SPI, PWM
• Experience with Agile Software Development and SCRUM
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Can’t be afraid of wires, termination blocks, or jumper cables

Desirable Experience

• Ubuntu Linux
• Secure Boot and Chain of Trust
• Bootloader porting (e.g. U-Boot)
• Experience with Agile Software Development and SCRUM
• Ansible as an IoT automation platform
• Running and managing Docker containers
• Configuring and managing Jenkins for continuous integration
• Using Linux configuration management tools like cobbler, kickstart, puppet and chef are highly welcome

Office based with travel to customers, both in the UK and overseas, and Group companies as required.
