Eurotech and Ansaldo STS Sign Production Agreement for Next Generation Rail Crossing and Wayside Equipment Management

Amaro (UD) 20 May 2008 - Eurotech, a leader in pervasive compute platforms, announces today that it has signed a contract for the supply of Union Switch & Signal (Ansaldo STS Group) new generation TransPortal® Remote product. The contract covers the production and supply of TransPortal Remote product over the long term with an initial delivery of 1000 units.

The TansPortal® Remote is an advanced wireless rail crossing and wayside equipment monitoring system combining Eurotech’s unique pervasive platform hardware/software technology with a complete IBM WebSphere based SOA backend. TransPortal® Remote leverages Eurotech’s unique product offerings of a complete industrially hardend wireless infrastructure support (cellular, GPS, 802.11 and Zigbee) combined with a Java application framework that works seamlessly with IBM’s WebSphere middleware products.

“This is a very unique and forward thinking solution for this industry” said Eurotech’s Inc. President Arlen Nipper. “The Ansaldo STS Transportal® Remote products bring best in class SOA architectures to the very edge of railway infrastructures providing their customers with complete wireless end to end data analysis, data delivery, and data visualization capabilities.”.

The decision to use Eurotech’s pervasive platform technology was a huge time to market benefit. Using Eurotech’s hardware platform and existing Java application framework in conjunction with the IBM WebSphere middleware, allowed Ansaldo STS to concentrate on adding their extensive paradigm experience in this market to the TransPortal® Remote product.
