Applied Data Systems Awarded Follow-on Contract for Embedded Computers in AutoMark® Voting Systems

Amaro (UD), 9 July 2007

Applied Data Systems, a leader in low-power embedded computer systems and a subsidiary of Eurotech Group, S.p.A, announces today that it has received a 930,000USD follow-on contract for voting systems from AutoMark®. The AutoMark® systems offer voters with special needs, including visual and mobility impairments, the same independent and private voting environment that the general public experiences. The voting systems will be deployed to support upcoming primary and general elections.

Applied Data Systems built the voting systems embedded solution based on the Portal product family using the Intel IXP425 processor and running Windows CE. The AutoMark® systems meet the federal Help America Vote Act (HAVA), which requires that all polling locations be equipped with at least one voting system accessible to Americans with disabilities. The Applied Data voting system includes Braille, audio, and puff tube for those unable to interface through a touchscreen. Multiple languages are also supported.

Applied Data Systems provides low power, high capability embedded computer systems. Because of this design philosophy, the voting systems will be able to operate with battery power should emergency conditions cause a loss of power while the polls are open.

"Applied Data Systems is proud to make voting, a key democratic right, accessible to more citizens through the AutoMark® voting systems, - said Robert Olsen, President of Applied Data Systems. - When our systems enable activities that serve the community, we see the profound positive effect technology can have on individuals' daily lives."

Applied Data Systems is an Associate Member with the Intel® Communications Alliance, a community of communications and embedded developers and solution providers; is a Gold Level Partner in Microsofts Windows Embedded Partner program and six-time winner of the Excellence Award as Independent Hardware Vendor from Microsoft; and is a contributor to the Debian Open Source Community.
