1. Head of Engineering

Eurotech, a global company that designs, creates and delivers full Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, including services, software and hardware, is seeking a skilled, motivated, and enthusiastic Head of Engineering to be added to its engineering team.

Eurotech IoT products and solutions simplify device and data management by connecting distributed devices through secure and reliable Cloud services. With Eurotech solutions in place, clients have access to the latest open source and standardized software stacks, flexible and rugged Multi-Service IoT Edge Gateways and sophisticated sensors to bring actionable data from the field into business operations.

Main Functions

  • Ensure the development and delivery of new product developments on time and to budget
  • Write/review specifications including design criteria, prepare/maintain project plans
  • Manage a multi-disciplined team of hardware, software and mechanical engineers, based in the UK and Europe while coordinating with other engineering teams within Eurotech Group
  • Identify quality issues and initiate corrective actions
  • Ensure a good level of technical support to both existing and new customers
  • Provide engineering support to the Sales Team to enhance their ability to develop new and existing business, including customer visits as required, both home and abroad
  • Project management to ensure efficient and timely delivery of engineering projects, adjusting priorities where necessary
  • In collaboration with Product Management, manage and maintain the product life cycle process
  • Contribute in development and adoption of Eurotech engineering standards and procedures in coordination with other Engineering Managers and teams in the Group

Other Functions

  • Development of engineering personnel, ensuring adequate and appropriate training is provided to all staff in order that they acquire and maintain the skills necessary to carry out the responsibilities of their role
  • Ensure all engineering contractual relationships entered into by the company are appropriate for the needs of the business and within corporate guidelines
  • Set up and report, on a monthly basis, on departmental and key performance indicators and measures of performance
  • Keep up to date with current relevant UK, European and North American regulatory approvals and cellular carrier certification requirements, eg., WEEE, RoHS, LVD, RED, REACH, FCC, ISED, PTCRB, AT&T, Verizon
  • Keep up to date with changes in technology and semiconductor road maps covering, however not limited to, embedded application processors and wireless technologies (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 802.15.4, Cellular, GNSS, LPWA)
  • Awareness of all Health & Safety and Fire Safety procedures relating to the areas of responsibility

Preferred Qualifications

  • HND/Degree, or equivalent in an Electronic Engineering related subject, and/or 5 years’ experience within an electronic board design and manufacturing environment
  • Ability to demonstrate capability in each of the key competence areas above

Preferred Experience and Skills Required

  • An in-depth technical understanding of electronic systems with hands-on design experience and system engineering knowledge
  • Possess comprehensive hardware, firmware, operating system knowledge (embedded and conventional, inc. BIOS, DOS, Windows, Linux)
  • Possess a good understanding and have experience of costings and budgets, including design-to-cost techniques
  • Previous experience in developing embedded systems for industrial, railways and aftermarket automotive markets with an understanding of the related compliance requirements (e.g. EN50155, eMark, SAE J1455)
  • Experience of working within a strict ISO9001 quality standard environment
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools and their integration in the engineering management is a plus
  • Possess a proficient understanding of customer relations, objectives and be able to meet their expectations
  • Ability to explain and simplify complex concepts
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a natural ability to work with a variety of personalities
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to tight deadlines
  • High degree of initiative - able to operate productively alone and as part of a team
  • Display enthusiasm and an energetic approach to the role

Comments

Cambridge based with travel to customers, suppliers and sub-contractors, both in the UK and overseas, and Group companies as required.
