Mechanical Design Engineer

Eurotech, a global company leader in AI on the Edge and producer of liquid-cooled embedded high-performance computers that enable the next generation autonomous systems, is seeking a skilled, motivated, and enthusiastic mechanical design engineer to join its core engineering team.

The mechanical design engineer will be responsible for the design of mechanical solutions to be used in rugged environments. The candidate’s assignments will include design of the enclosures, cooling systems and cabling to integrate systems and sub-assemblies.

This technical role requires attention to detail and excellent communication skills. It involves working across the full product development lifecycle from feasibility and requirements gathering through to transfer to manufacture, production support and maintenance. The engineer will also play a support role for operations and customers.

As a member of the Eurotech engineering team, the candidate will join an international group of talented engineers delivering state-of-the-art technology to large enterprise customers around the world.

Responsibilities

  • Design of enclosure solutions for industrial, rail and automotive applications
  • Product definition and specification to meet customer needs
  • Concepting and development of prototypes
  • Detailed development including calculations, analysis, and structural / thermal simulation
  • Design for Manufacturing / Assembly
  • Inspection, analysis and validation
  • Transfer to Manufacture and support
  • Failure Mode & Effect Analysis and Fault Tree Analysis
  • Generation and maintenance of technical engineering files within a quality management system, from initial specification to release and beyond
  • Tracking and reporting progress of projects as part of an international team
  • Interfacing with manufacturers, customers and third parties
  • Reporting to Head of Hardware & Systems Engineering

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in mechanical engineering
  • Knowledge of MCAD software, preferably SolidWorks. Collaboration with ECAD (e.g. OrCAD) is a plus
  • Demonstrably high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Sound knowledge of materials, assembly technologies and machining methods
  • Strong ability to generate and communicate concepts in a clear and effective manner
  • Ability to thrive in a team environment, building and sharing a common idea
  • Self-motivated and proactive team player, staying up-to-date with manufacturing techniques
  • Good written and spoken English

Desirable Experience

  • Design for regulatory approval including product safety requirements, such as EN 62368-1
  • Design to meet shock and vibration requirements, such as EN50155 (rail)
  • Design for electronic cooling; experience with liquid cooled systems is a strong plus
  • Application of RoHS3, WEEE and REACH to current and new designs
  • Finite Element Analysis of physical effects such as vibration, heat or fluid flow
  • Experience with design of enclosures for high-speed or high-power electronics
  • Proven ability to deliver under pressure of tight deadlines

Test Development Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a continuous integration system to support verification and validation of hardware and software interfaces
  • Write test applications using C/C++ and scripting languages
  • Design, organize and manufacture test fixtures
  • Write and release test procedures to Eurotech test engineers and subcontractors
  • Provide support and guidance to test engineers and subcontractors regarding test issues
  • Provide guidance to the design teams during product specification stage to ensure adequate test coverage can be achieved
  • Maintain existing test procedures
  • Tracking and reporting progress of projects as part of an international team
  • Interfacing with manufacturers, customers and third parties
  • Reporting to the Embedded Software Manager

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Degree or similar in a computer science, software or engineering discipline
  • Continuous integration experience with Jenkins or Cloudbees
  • Good programming skills: C/C++, BASH and Python
  • Strong ability to generate and communicate concepts in a clear and effective manner
  • Ability to thrive in a team environment, building and sharing a common idea
  • Self-motivated and proactive team player, staying up-to-date with test tools and techniques
  • Good written and spoken English

Desirable Experience

  • Familiarity with Linux
  • Experience writing Jenkins plugins
  • Knowledge of version control systems, such as Git
  • Knowledge of test / manufacturing environments
  • Proven ability to deliver under pressure of tight deadlines
  • Good housekeeping skills, maintaining a well organised and tidy working area
  • Willingness to travel to mainland Europe and the Far East
