Energy efficiency for green HPC

An amazing PUE for greener IT!

The Eurotech HPC products are balanced solutions, maximizing energy utilization in every part of system, starting from the cooling infrastructure, to the power supply conversion, down to the processing cores.

At Eurotech, we thought about greener systems that could bear immediate economic advantages for customers. We identified in the power consumption of data centers one of the raising problems in the future, where energy cost and availability will become real hurdles to overtake to get to exascale systems.

Making HPC systems more energy efficient requires a series of actions that span from the semiconductor and the processor architecture to the facility. Observing the typical energy consumption breakdown of a data center, it is possible to determine the 2 areas of greater power consumption: cooling and power conversion, which incidentally are the ones not linked to any IT equipment and so not usefully employed.

This is the reason why Eurotech decided to concentrate on cooling and power conversion.

Our systems are entirely liquid cooled with water up to 50 °C, making the use of air conditioning redundant. They also use a technology of power conversion with an efficiency of 97%.

All in all, this means an Eurotech based data center can have a PUE of 1,05!

Green is not only energy efficiency but also sustainability, through saved real estate space, thanks to the high density of our HPC systems, and reduced equipment, components and spare parts, thanks to the air conditioning/chillers avoidance and the greater reliability our systems have.

Sustainability is also a better working environment in the data center, where the noise of the fans is replaced by the silence of the water circulating in the cooling pipes.
