1. Embedded Linux Engineer

Eurotech is seeking an exceptional engineer with solid hands-on experience with the Linux operating system – from kernel and device drivers to application development.

In addition to maintaining and developing Linux support across Eurotech’s line of embedded products, the candidate will actively contribute to existing Linux development and Eurotech’s award winning Everyware™ Cloud Internet of Things (IoT) program. By learning and employing the most recent tools and techniques, including advanced configuration management and cloud-based solutions, Eurotech aims at more automated quality control and predictable delivery times.

The position is based in Cambridge, UK. The candidate will join a multi-national team of incredibly talented, hardworking developers based in Europe and the United States and will have the opportunity to support customers worldwide.
• Develop embedded Linux distributions, board support packages and device drivers for Eurotech embedded hardware, including x86 and ARM based platforms
• Organize, automate and manage Linux distributions across Eurotech’s portfolio of products, across chip architectures and platform versions
• Provide feasibility and cost studies for custom software projects
• Provide support and guidance to the systems development and systems application teams to create complete product solutions
Required Skills
• An in-depth technical understanding of the Linux Operating system
• Proven experience with Linux, its configuration, kernel, driver, and application development
• Experience with Linux Networking Configuration (iptables, routing, cellular, wifi)
• Knowledge of security techniques and best practices
• Excellent programming skills (C, Shell Scripting)
• Experience of developing low level software
• Experience with GCC/GNU Linux tool chain and cross compiling
• Comfortable with version control and release management e.g. Git
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Can’t be afraid of wires, termination blocks, or jumper cables
Desirable Experience
• Knowledge of and hands-on experience with Open Embedded or the Yocto project
• Experience with Wind River Linux and Wind River Workbench
• Bootloader porting (e.g. U-Boot)
• Creating and integrating (JNI) Java Native Interfaces to Linux
• Experience with Java programming
• Experience with Linux configuration management tools like cobbler, kickstart, puppet and chef are highly welcome
• Android development experience - particularly low level Android porting and not just application development
• Experience with industry specific protocols such as Bluetooth LE, Modbus, CanBus, Zigbee, I2C, SPI, PWM, or others is highly welcome.
• Experience with Agile Software Development and SCRUM
• Degree, or equivalent in an electronic or software subject and significant C/C++ programming experience with Linux at kernel building and device driver development level
• Demonstrate the required level of capability in each of the key competence areas above

2. Technical Sales Engineer

1. Organizational Details
• Department: Sales and Marketing
• Section: Technical Sales
• Reports to: Managing Director
• Supervises: Field Applications Engineer

2. Role Description
The role of the technical sales team is to provide technical assistance to other sales staff as required, but more importantly to lead the process of converting large opportunities through to initial design wins via a combination of sound technical knowledge based upon the companies core products, coupled with commercial estimating, presentation and negotiating skills. The Technical Sales Engineer will be able to demonstrate an ability to communicate at all levels within a target organisation, and will be able to influence decision makers by establishing themselves and Eurotech as a trusted partner to the client organisation.

3. Main Responsibilities
• Account Management – development of customer relations, identifying key customers and ensuring they receive premium service and support that is relevant to their function within the decision chain
• Ability to understand customer usage requirements and suggest suitably configured design solutions to meet customer requirements
• Serve as a technical consultant to potential and existing customers, qualifying requirements and offering guidance as to the best solution
• Be a bridge between the Engineering and Sales Departments to provide Account Managers with advance product information and system configuration information
• Provide accurate and timely cost estimation data and prepare customer proposals for your accounts in support of the Account Managers
• Guide Account Managers at the technical stage when developing enquiries, acknowledging orders and winning new business
• Accompany and assist Account Managers during meetings (throughout the UK and Europe)
• When in the office, manage client meetings, e-mails and sales calls whenever the relevant Account Manager is unable to do so due to the high level of technical content
• Support the Marketing team in matters of technical accuracy regarding marketing material, website content and to author technical press releases and promotional mail shots
• Attend major industry and electronic exhibitions to promote the company, its products and services
• Plan, document and head presentations to all levels of personnel as part of the company’s proactive training programme
Other Functions
• Provide assistance with post-sales technical support when customers are at the development stage
• Training and developing staff within the Sales & Marketing Department
• Provide colleagues and management with up-to-date forecasts and regular project updates in a timely manner
• Perform any other duties as reasonably directed by your Manager

4. Preferred Qualifications
• HND/Degree, or equivalent in an Engineering subject, and/or 3-5 years experience of working with the embedded computer industry
• Ability to demonstrate capability in each of the key competence areas above
• Current full clean driving licence

5. Preferred Experience & Skills Required
• Commercial awareness – ability to understand the business benefits and commercial realities and risks from both the Company’s and customers perspective and the ability to interpret contractual issues
• The ability to produce and deliver professional sales proposals and sales presentations of products and solutions to technical, commercial and directorate staff within customer organisations
• Ability to explain and simplify complex concepts
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a natural ability to work with a variety of personalities
• An in-depth technical understanding of electronic systems
• A good understanding of cloud based infrastructures, messaging middleware and web2/web3 implementation
• A good understanding of industrial based computing solutions, communication systems and M2M architectures and software solution selling
• A good understand of technology based computing markets
• Possess a thorough knowledge of TCP/IP networking and the internet
• A sound understanding of integrating applications level software within embedded hardware and operating systems
• A good understanding of the interoperability of hardware
• Software applications programming experience within the ‘embedded computer’ industry, ideally under Linux and Windows embedded operating systems. Knowledge of JAVA an advantage
• Possess a proficient understanding of customer relations, objectives and be able to meet their expectations
• Ability to provide technical support and troubleshooting
• Possess extensive awareness of pervasive and leading edge technology
• Be highly IT and computer systems literate
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Display enthusiasm and an energetic approach to the role

6. Personal Characteristics
It is critical that the individual in this role is a highly motivated, self driven person, who is prepared to go the extra ‘mile’ to make a difference as Eurotech has an established reputation for quality product and technical support. Cambridge based with travel to customers, suppliers and sub-contractors, both in the UK and overseas, and Group companies as required.
