Eurotech today introduced a new rugged version of the PC/104-Plus form factor CPU-1450: the CPU-1450-50, which is designed to operate reliably in harsh environmental conditions ? including vibration and extreme temperature ranges. Suitable for transportation, aerospace, and military applications, it can be used in extreme environmental conditions because it is provided with particular features that allow the Module to resist vibration and mechanical/thermal shock commonly experienced in rugged embedded systems.
Featuring the ULV BGA Celeron 400MHz processor and Intel? 815E chipset with 133MHz bus, the CPU module is based on a mezzanine CPU board stacked on a PC/104-Plus carrier board. With this design, the CPU-1450-50 can operate without any active cooling and features a low power consumption of only 8.5 W @ 5VDC. A passive heat sink is included to ensure reliable operations over extended temperature ranges.
The module?s standard RAM memory is 256MB, and comes soldered onboard in order to ensure mechanical shock and vibration resistance.
The carrier portion of the module includes a socket for the CPU mezzanine module and the connections for the ISA and PCI bridge on the bottom side, enabling the CPU-1450-50 to be stacked on top of a PC/104 or a PC/104-Plus system. The carrier implements also all the connections for peripherals, including 4 USB ports, 1 Fast Ethernet interface (10/100Mbps), 2 Serial ports, 1 Parallel port, 1 VGA interface, 1 AC97 audio sound interface, Keyboard, Mouse and an IDE controller that supports any type of IDE Flash devices (DiskonModule?, CompactFlash? and Flash Disk). The carrier can be customized to match specific customer needs, upon request.
The CPU-1450-50 provides support for Watchdog management and Real Time Clock (external backup battery). The module?s BIOS, which is re-programmable onboard and can be customized or upgraded to match specific system configurations, integrates a variety of embedded features, including error handling, Virtual Peripheral Support, Etherboot support and the capability to save the set-up parameters into the Flash EPROM to allow the module to operate without a battery. The operating systems (OS) supported by this module include Windows CE.NET, Windows XPE, Linux, RT Linux, QNX, and VxWorks.
