New Parvus Rugged Computing Subsystem Balances Small Size, Low Power & I/O Expandability for Military Vehicle and Aircraft Applications

Amaro, ITALY, February 23, 2011 Eurotech subsidiary Parvus introduces the DuraCOR 830, a rugged tactical mission processor subsystem optimized for Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP)-constrained military/civil unmanned and manned air, ground, and shipboard technology refresh programs. Delivering robust functionality, low-power operation and small size, the DuraCOR 830 is an ideal solution for situational awareness and C4ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) applications.

The unit features a modular, Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) PC/104-Plus architecture with an ultra low-power Intel Atom CPU (running at 1.6 Ghz), dual avionics interfaces (MIL-STD-1553), I/O expansion capabilities, and mechanically compact chassis (<4 tall, <4lbs heavy). With two (2) open expansion slots for PC/104, PCI-104, or PC/104-Plus cards, along with more than 100 spare connector pins on lightweight MIL-38999 connectors, the DuraCOR 830 is primed for tailoring to application-specific I/O configurations. To reduce program risk, cost and time to deployment, Parvus offers professional subsystems integration services to rapidly tailor this computing platform using COTS technologies to program-specific I/O requirements.

The DuraCOR 830 is designed for use under extended temperature (-40 to +71C) and other demanding MIL-STD-810G environmental conditions (shock, vibration, altitude, humidity, immersion). Its corrosion-resistant, sealed aluminum chassis incorporates protection from water and dust ingress, as well as MIL-STD-461F emissions and susceptibility. Designed for avionics and ground vehicle platforms to enhance situational awareness and computational capabilities, the DuraCOR 830 delivers processing and multimedia performance similar to Pentium M-based DuraCOR subsystems, but with less power consumption, double the RAM memory capacity, and dual Flash SSDs. The system is also equipped with a 28V power supply compliant with MIL-STD-1275 and MIL-STD-704 voltages, spikes, and surges.
The small form-factor computer subsystem integrates Gigabit Ethernet and dual MIL-STD-1553 (optional) connectivity from Data Device Corp (DDC), along with digital I/O and standard PC interfaces, including analog video, audio, 3x USB, 2x RS-232 serial, keyboard, and mouse. For application flexibility, the unit comes with an 8GB industrial solid state disk (SSD) pre-loaded with a Linux or Windows Embedded operating system, as well as a removable 16 GB CompactFlash disk for file storage.
