– Parvus Corporation, US-based subsidiary of Eurotech Spa, today announced that Kawasaki Rail Car, Inc. has ordered 150 DuraMAR® 1000 routers for installation on new M-8 passenger rail cars for the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Metro-North Railroad (MNR). New York’s MNR is the second busiest commuter railroad in the United States, providing approximately 275,000 customer trips each weekday and some 80 million trips per year. Parvus’ ruggedized Mobile Access Routers (MAR) are specified into the rail cars’ next-generation Internet Protocol (IP)-based computer network infrastructure. The order is valued at approximately $1.6 Million. Deliveries are scheduled to start in 2009.
Kawasaki will fit the new M-8 rail cars with a version of the DuraMAR® 1000 IP router especially configured for rolling stock installations, enabling advanced on-board routing functionality, including Quality of Service (QoS), VLAN, remote diagnostics (SNMP), and mobile IP for remote access management.
