Aurora: Greener, Scalable, Versatile
Always growing energy demands for computing dictate greener HPC systems. Green does not only mean efficient: it means with a lower total cost over the entire lifetime of a computer. AURORA is a balanced solution, maximizing energy utilization in every part of system, starting from the external cooling infrastructure, to the power supply conversion , down to the processing cores.
- AURORA means lower TCO: using liquid cooling for all its subsystems, and efficient power conversion methods, energy utilization is maximized and TCO is reduced significantly.
- AURORA Packaging density allows installing the highest number of Intel Xeon5500 cores in a single rack: 2048 cores in a 48U rack. Higher density means easier system placement and deployment, centralized heat removal, and higher performance per unit volume: 24TFlops in one rack, or 8.36TFlops/m3.
- AURORA systems, thanks to their liquid cooling, are completely silent and vibration free. No noisy fans, no vibrations, dusty datacenter rooms, but good looking, user friendly and easy to access equipment.
- AURORA has a flexible choice of interconnets: a QDR IB switched network, and a 3DTorus interconnect, allowing seamless system scalability, with no extra expenses for switches and cabling, allowing on-the-fly system partitioning and ensuring a total bandwidth of 60Gbps with us latencies.
- Using Intel Xeon5500 series processors, AURORA can reach state of the art performance levels, while keeping compatibility with x86 applications, tools and OS's, open source or proprietary.
- AURORA is also well equipped to tackle the OS jitter issue, thanks to its three different and independent synchronization networks
- AURORA benefits from a dual network of sensors and controls, which enhances
reliability and robustness, and makes maintenance easier.
